Guardian ad Litem Services

I provide Guardian ad Litem services for Family Court and Probate Court matters.

As a Guardian ad Litem, I am appointed by the Court as a neutral body in a custody, adoption, guardianship, or conservator case. I investigate each matter (custody, adoption, guardianship, or conservatorship), talk with any interested or relevant parties, conduct a home visit, write a report as to my findings, and submit my report to the Court.

Please click on the specific link for the process and pertinent information regarding how a matter is handled, the steps involved, home visits, and fees.

I understand your adoption, custody, or Probate case may be very emotional due to varying circumstances. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or further clarifications of the process.

  • After I am appointed as GAL in your Family Court matter, I usually reach out via email or phone.

In custody cases, I will email an Initial Parent Questionnaire that allows me greater insight into your relationship, the child or children involved, and any other areas of concern you feel are pertinent to this matter.

I will also schedule a private interview with each parent and a home visit. I will complete a report or reports (if needed) that shares my investigation with the Court. A report will be provided to the Court and each attorney prior to the final hearing. Please reach out to your attorney to receive a copy of my report.

In adoption cases, I will reach out to the prospective adoptive parents. A home visit will be handled virtually if the adoptive parents are out of state. We will discuss the health of your adopted son or adopted daughter, the adoptive bonding process, how you as adopted parents are doing, etc.

I will compile my investigation into a report that I will present at the adoption hearing.

  • My role in a Guardianship or Conservatorship matter is to be the “eyes and ears” of the Court. I am a neutral party that investigates the matter before the Court. I will speak to any relevant parties or individuals and meet with the loved one (who is at the center of the matter). I also schedule a home visit to meet with your loved one (A.I.I.). After my investigation is complete, I compile my information into a report that will be submitted to the Court and your attorney. Please reach out to your attorney for a copy of my completed report.

  • Family Court: I will reach out to conduct a home visit with each parent to speak with the parent and child. I may also interview teachers, guidance counselors, neighbors, or other individuals that might provide insight into the child’s specific situations.

Probate Court: I will reach out to the Petitioner to schedule a home visit if applicable. I will visit the A.I.I. and speak with him/her. I will also schedule a time to meet or speak with any person that may be an interested party in the guardianship and/or conservatorship matter.

  • Family Court: My hourly rate for a Family Court matter is $200/hour. The Court typically sets the initial retainer and allowable fee caps. The total cost will be split between both parties. A complex case usually requires a higher fee cap.

Probate Court: My hourly rate for a Guardianship and/or Conservatorship matter is $175 - $200. This will be paid after the final hearing once my fee is approved by the attorneys and the Judge. Some counties have a preset hourly rate which I will adhere to.
