Guardian ad Litem Services

I provide Guardian ad Litem services for Family Court and Probate Court matters. As a Guardian ad Litem, I serve as a neutral investigator appointed by the Court to independently assess each case and provide the Court with objective information and my findings. My role is to conduct a comprehensive investigation focused on the best interests of the child or protected individual. This process may include interviewing parties and relevant individuals, reviewing records and documentation, conducting home visits, and evaluating the circumstances surrounding the matter.

Upon completion of my investigation, I prepare a detailed written report outlining my findings and professional recommendations, which is submitted to the Court and provided to counsel prior to scheduled hearings.

I understand that these matters often involve emotional and complex family dynamics. My goal is to approach each case with professionalism, discretion, and compassion while ensuring the Court receives clear, thorough, and reliable information to assist in its decision-making. Please refer to the specific links below for additional details regarding the process, expectations, timelines, and home visits. Should you have any questions or need clarification, you are welcome to contact me directly.

  • After I am appointed as GAL in your Family Court matter, I usually reach out via email or phone.

I will email an Initial Parent Questionnaire that allows me greater insight into your relationship, the child or children involved, and any other areas of concern you feel are pertinent to this matter.

I will conduct a private interview with each party and complete a home visit as part of my investigation. Following this process, I will prepare a written report, or multiple reports if necessary, summarizing my findings and recommendations for the Court. Copies of the report will be provided to the Court and to each party’s attorney in advance of the final hearing. Please contact your attorney to obtain a copy of the report.

In adoption cases, I will reach out to the prospective adoptive parents. A home visit will be handled virtually if the adoptive parents are out of state. We will discuss the health of your adopted son or adopted daughter, the adoptive bonding process, how you as adopted parents are doing, etc.

I will compile my investigation into a report that I will present at the adoption hearing.

  • My role in a Guardianship or Conservatorship matter is to be the “eyes and ears” of the Court. I am a neutral party that investigates the matter before the Court. I will speak to any relevant parties or individuals and meet with the loved one (who is at the center of the matter). I also schedule a home visit to meet with your loved one (A.I.I.). After my investigation is complete, I compile my information into a report that will be submitted to the Court and your attorney. Please reach out to your attorney for a copy of my completed report.

  • Family Court: I will reach out to conduct a home visit with each parent to speak with the parent and child. I may also interview teachers, guidance counselors, neighbors, or other individuals that might provide insight into the child’s specific situations.

Probate Court: I will reach out to the Petitioner to schedule a home visit if applicable. I will visit the A.I.I. and speak with him/her. I will also schedule a time to meet or speak with any person that may be an interested party in the guardianship and/or conservatorship matter.
